MealCrew

Terms of use

As of 22 October 2026

1. What this is about

MealCrew is an app for planning meals together – for families, flat shares, groups of friends and individuals; this includes the website mealcrew.de with recipes. The provider is the company named in the legal notice. By signing in you accept these terms.

2. Account and crews

You need an account (sign in with Google, Microsoft or with an email code). Keep your access private. In crews you share meals, the shopping list, the pantry and wishes with other members, as well as the recipes you share with the crew; anyone with an invitation link can join the crew while the link is valid. Crew admins can add and remove people.

You can create your own account from the age of 13; until 16 you need your parents' consent. Parents add younger children to the crew as a person without an account.

We may show you messages in the app, such as greetings, news or notices about changes. They appear when you open the app and under Profile → News. You can switch off "Greetings and news" there; important notices, e.g. about these terms or about privacy, always reach you. We do not write to you about them by push notification or email.

3. Your content

Entries, recipes, photos and other content you create remain yours. You only grant us the rights needed to store it and show it to the members of your crews or the crews you share it with. Only upload content you have the necessary rights to. For recipes from a link, MealCrew links to the source; the full content stays with the website.

Recipes from other sources

Ingredient lists, instructions and images from other websites are usually protected by copyright. You may fetch and store them for yourself – that is a private copy. Making them available to others, including within your crew, is a different matter and would not be permitted.

MealCrew is therefore built so that this cannot happen in the first place: when you share a recipe with a crew, the others only see its name, link, tags, category, rating, your own notes and your own photos. Whatever you loaded from the source stays in your account. Anyone who wants to see the content loads it themselves – the app offers a button for this and can do it automatically when you open a recipe.

If a recipe comes from an explicitly open source, or you wrote it yourself, this restriction does not apply and you share the content as usual. Only put content you hold the necessary rights to into the fields that are shared.

Recipes from mealcrew.de

We write the recipes on mealcrew.de ourselves. "Add to MealCrew" creates a copy in your recipe collection that you may change and share with your crews; publishing it elsewhere is not covered. If you rate such a recipe with stars, the website shows only the average and the number of ratings, never who rated. A rating should be your honest opinion of the recipe.

Unlawful or offensive content, content that infringes others' rights, and attempts to disrupt the app or access other people's data are not allowed. In case of violations we may remove content and suspend accounts.

Adding product details

If you submit photos or details for an article (nutrition values, ingredients, name), only upload photos you took yourself and without people on them. You grant us a free, non-exclusive and unlimited right to show them to all users in the shared article catalogue and to pass them on to Open Food Facts – photos under the CC BY-SA licence, details under the Open Database License (ODbL). We review every submission before it applies and may accept it in full or in part, or reject it. Nutrition values and ingredients from labels may contain errors; the pack itself remains authoritative.

4. Nutrition values and hints

Nutrition values come from the German Food Code (BLS), Open Food Facts or user input. They are averages without guarantee and not dietary advice. Hints such as "source of fibre" are general classifications.

AI suggestions

Recipes suggested by an AI are ideas, not checked by us. Amounts, times, nutrition values and sources can be wrong, and a stated address may not exist at all. Check the result before you cook from it – especially with allergies and with food for children. The service you use for it has its own terms, including its age limits. Do not copy anyone else's recipe text verbatim into MealCrew; the prompt expressly asks the AI for its own words and for the source to be named.

The same goes for images an AI creates: they do not show your food but an invention, and they may resemble existing works. The service has its own terms, including who owns the result and how it may be used. If you upload such an image here, it is your photo for the purposes of these terms – you are responsible for being allowed to upload it.

The recipes and images on mealcrew.de are also created with the help of AI; we check them before publishing and label them. The photos there are AI-generated illustrations, not pictures of the finished dish.

5. Costs and MealCrew Plus

The basic features are free. Some extras (MealCrew Plus) have limits in the free version, e.g. the number of photos. A paid Plus subscription is not available yet; when it comes, additional terms will apply and be shown before purchase.

6. Availability

We aim for reliable operation but cannot promise permanent availability. We may develop the app further and change features. The app is currently in a test phase.

7. Liability

We are liable without limitation for intent and gross negligence and for injury to life, body or health. For slight negligence we are only liable for breach of essential obligations, limited to typical, foreseeable damage. Liability under the Product Liability Act remains unaffected.

8. Termination and deletion

You can delete your account at any time in the app under Profile → "Delete account". Before that you can download a copy of your data under Profile → My data. We may end your use for good cause.

9. Advertising and affiliate links

The app and the website show no ads. In the app under Profile → Partner programmes, and on mealcrew.de, for example in reviews and presentations of kitchen appliances, books or delivery services, you will find labelled links to other providers. If you order there, we receive a commission; the price stays the same for you. Any contract is concluded solely with that provider. We accept no liability for its offers, prices, delivery or terms.

10. Final provisions

German law applies. Mandatory consumer protection rules of your country of residence remain unaffected. If we change these terms, we will let you know in the app, for example as a message under Profile → News.

The German version is legally binding.
